Your Guide to Voting in the May 19 Primary

May Matters! Get everything you need to make an informed decision for yourself, your community and your students.

The big news: Idaho Education Association’s list of endorsements and recommended candidates is available now so you can learn about pro-public education candidates in your area. 

• The recommendations are based on thorough vetting conducted by the IEA’s Political Action Committee for Education (PACE) Committee. The process was created by members, for members. No outside money or endorsements are involved. 

• “This primary election is one of the most consequential for public education in years,” said IEA President Layne McInelly, chair of the PACE Committee. “The PACE Committee spent hours poring over candidate

 surveys and voting records to determine recommendations. As always, our recommendations include both Republicans and Democrats — because public education is an issue that crosses party lines and affects all our communities.”  completed PACE’s formal endorsement process, which involves filling out a candidate survey that is reviewed and analyzed by committee members. 

• Education-friendly candidates may not have completed the formal process but have a proven track record of public positions supporting public education.

Make your plan to vote: The absentee ballot and pre-registration deadline ended at 5 p.m. local time today. Mark your calendars for these two additional deadlines: 

• May 15: Early in-person voting ends at 5 p.m. local time. 

• May 19: Election Day! Polls will be open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. local time.
