We believe public education is a true public good that transforms lives and creates a more just and inclusive society making it an indispensable cornerstone of our American democratic republic. Together, we defend the teaching profession and believe public education is strengthened when educators are respected for their contributions to our state and its families.
The best argument for public education in Idaho is the good, simple truth of what happens in our members’ classrooms each and every day.
Layne McInelly,
IEA President and Public School Educator

House Bill 382 is set to be heard in the House Education Committee tomorrow, March 13th — and we need your voice to help defeat it.
This dangerous bill would require Idaho’s public schools and universities to track and report the immigration status of students, publishing this data in aggregate form and sharing with the Superintendent of Public Instruction for public dissemination.
House Bill 382 introduces significant risks to student well-being, educational access and community trust. While framed as a data collection effort, it could lead to harmful consequences, including heightened fear, discrimination and disengagement from school. Schools should be safe, welcoming spaces for all students, and policies like this threaten that fundamental principle.
💬 What can you do?
📞 Call or email House Education Committee members and urge them to VOTE NO on HB 382.
🏫 Speak up for our students—schools should be safe and welcoming for all.

Idaho’s revenue projections are falling short, and lawmakers are already talking about cutting critical infrastructure.
With millions siphoned from the General Fund for private school voucher schemes, Idahoans are likely to feel the consequences of vouchers before this session is even over.
📢 Idahoans deserve better than underfunded schools and broken budgets. Share and like if you agree.

Meet the IEA Education Support Professionals (ESPs) Committee!
“In my brief time as liaison, I’ve come to know dozens of ESPs across the state of Idaho who perform incredibly valuable work for their communities,” said Brent Nichols, who serves as staff liaison. “Not only are they putting in long hours for painfully low pay, at times they’re even putting their physical health on the line to ensure student safety."
Read about the committee`s vital role in addressing the unique challenges faced by ESPs through recruitment, professional development and empowerment initiatives, ensuring ESP voices are heard in decision-making processes in a new IEA Reporter story: https://bit.ly/4iy0ZTG (clickable link is in our bio)

Monday, March 3 marks 133 years of the Idaho Education Association! 🎊
Since 1892, IEA has worked tirelessly to support and empower Idaho’s educators — advocating for fair wages, strong benefits, respect in the profession and better working and learning conditions for all.
“What an extraordinary legacy IEA members have — a legacy nearly as old as our beautiful state,” said IEA President Layne McInelly. “At no point in our modern history has that legacy and the commitment of IEA members been more important. Our union stands on the right side of history as a bulwark protecting public education from those who would dismantle it. We will not stop now.”

✊OPPOSE VOUCHERS. SUPPORT PUBLIC EDUCATION.
IEA President Layne McInelly called on Idaho Education Association members and other supporters of public education to wear “Red for Ed” on Tuesday, March 4, in a day of action protesting the signing of House Bill 93 — Idaho’s first public school voucher. Gov. Brad Little signed the legislation into law this week, ignoring an extraordinary outpouring of opposition to the bill from the public.
McInelly encouraged participants to share photos of themselves wearing their “Red for Ed” shirts on social media and to tag the posts with #redforedidaho. IEA members can also tag Idaho Education Association.
Let’s put Idaho policymakers on notice and stand with Idaho public educators and schools.

Bringing vouchers to Idaho is a huge mistake. House Bill 93 is just the beginning.
Voucher proponents — eager to help out-of-state billionaires plunder Idaho’s public school budget — are already planning how to exploit and expand this program during 2026’s legislative session.
Each year, they will try to siphon more and more tax dollars away from public schools as a gift to private and religious schools and their patrons. It’s a well-worn pattern that has already played out in every other state that has adopted these taxpayer-funded subsidies for the wealthy.
But as they have since 1892, IEA members stand on the right side of history in support of an equitable and free public education for all. They won’t stop now.
Our members will fight every step of the way to limit and roll back the damage caused by this legislation.
They will wade into electoral politics with renewed vigor to ensure future Idaho Legislatures support students and public schools — not out-of-state lobbyists and their billionaire benefactors.
No one fights for public schools like IEA members.
