About the Idaho Education Association

Since its founding 1892, just two years after Idaho became a state, the Idaho Education Association has fought to strengthen public education and elevate the teaching profession. What began as a small group advocating for fair treatment and professional standards has grown into Idaho’s largest organization representing educators statewide and the state's largest union for public employees. Today, the IEA champions competitive salaries, safe classrooms, strong student supports, and policies that protect and enhance public education. Guided by its member-driven mission, the IEA continues to advocate for educators’ rights and ensure every Idaho student has access to a high-quality public education.

We are the Idaho teacher’s union —  comprised of thousands of elementary and secondary teachers, education support professionals, school administrators, retired educators, and students.

We are the Idaho affiliate of the National Education Association, with over 3.2 million members strong across the country.

Most IEA members work in Idaho’s schools; some are retired after careers in education, or they are students planning a career in Idaho’s schools.

IEA members are actively involved in their communities, inside and out of school. The IEA Children’s Fund has provided more than $1.5 million in assistance to Idaho public school children and their families who face extraordinary needs for clothing, medical care, groceries, and other life necessities.
