Larry Caldwell Advocacy Award

This award is given annually to an IEA member or past member, group of members, or local Association who has confronted extraordinary challenges to assuring their students, their school, their colleagues, their profession, or they as an individual(s) are treated fairly and justly and who has acted courageously and with undaunted spirit in the face of those challenges.

Larry Caldwell was an Idaho teacher and IEA staff member for three decades.  He served as IEA Region 6 Director for 23 years, during which time he advocated for public education and public school educators with unparalleled passion and devotion.  Larry’s mission was to ensure IEA members and local Associations had the courage and capacity to stand up and to speak out for fairness and justice, both for our students and for our profession.  His legacy is reflected in this quote by Margaret Mead: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
