The big news: The Idaho Education Association’s Political Action Committee for Education (PACE) has endorsed 48 candidates, from U.S. Senate to local legislative seats.
Why it matters: Nearly every aspect of your job will be determined and set by the people on the ballot. IEA endorsements come from educators, not party leaders, and include Republicans, Democrats and independents.
• In statewide races, IEA is endorsing incumbent Republicans Debbie Critchfield for Superintendent of Public Instruction and Phil McGrane for Secretary of State. Independent Todd Achilles is the choice for U.S. Senate and Democrat Kaylee Peterson for the U.S. House.
• The remaining endorsees are running for state House and Senate seats across Idaho.
How endorsements are made: The committee contacted candidates individually to learn about their views and voting records, if applicable.
• Candidates completed a detailed questionnaire focused on public education issues.
• They were interviewed by local educators, who made recommendations to PACE.
• PACE then voted on each candidate.
• “IEA members know pro-public education candidates come from every party,” said IEA President and PACE Committee Chair Peggy Hoy. “Educators vetted each of these candidates. They understand that our schools, students and educators need respect and meaningful support to do their best work. This is your chance to use your voice in this election, and our endorsements are here to help you decide.”
