Ferro enters the Hall of Fame: Dr. Melyssa Ferro, a member of the Caldwell Education Association and one of the most honored educators in Idaho, is part of the National Teachers Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
• Ferro is one of only five educators in this year’s cohort, and the only one from Idaho.
• The Teachers Hall of Fame received a record number of nominations thanks to a feature on CBS Mornings, which makes Ferro’s award even more notable.
• Ferro will be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame, which is located in Kansas, in June. She will also attend Education Summit 2026, which is co-hosted by the Hall of Fame, in June at Walt Disney World in Florida.
IEA Human and Civil Rights Committee draws attention: The HCR Committee formed a “Teaching for Black Lives” study group that was featured recently on TeachingforBlackLives.org.
• Teaching for Black Lives study groups formed in 2020, but this is the first year Idaho has participated in the 50-state program.
• The group features members from throughout the state who meet online and in person to “create spaces to nurture mutual support and resistance in the midst of attacks on teaching honestly about U.S. history, racism, and LGBTQ+ identity.”
