The gist: Nominations are officially open for positions on the IEA Board of Directors and to select representatives to the National Education Association Representative Assembly from July 3-7, 2026, in Denver.

• The election for NEA RA representatives is scheduled for February 2026.

• The election for the Board of Directors will take place in May 2026.

Board of Directors positions open to nominations:

• President

• Vice president

• Chair of the Resolutions Committee

• ESP-at-large

• Retired educator

• Aspiring educator

• One board seat each for regions 1-8, which cover all of Idaho except for the West Ada Education Association (Region 9 does not have an election this year). All IEA regions have two representatives on the IEA board, except Region 7 (the Boise Education Association), which has three.

What happens next: An official notification of all nominations for each election will be emailed to all members at the appropriate time. Starting in January, deadlines and milestones will come quickly:

  • Jan. 16: Deadline for nominations for NEA RA delegates.
  • Feb. 11: NEA RA delegate election opens.
  • Feb. 17: Nominations close for IEA Board of Directors and statewide positions.
  • Feb. 19: NEA RA delegate election closes.
  • May 6: Election opens for IEA Board of Directors and statewide positions.
  • May 14: Election closes for IEA Board of Directors and statewide positions at 5 p.m. MDT.

Why it matters: As a member-led union, election participation is crucial to shaping the future of IEA and NEA. The IEA Board of Directors governs major decisions on behalf of Idaho’s union, and delegates to RA join union members from around the country in shaping the direction of NEA.

Get involved: Submit your nomination, discover who has filed to run for office, and discover a more detailed schedule, election guidelines, forms and downloads by visiting IEA’s Elections page. Now, the elections page can be found in the new members-only section of the website — you’ll need your member number to create an account.
