IEA Board Election Ballot is Set

In all, 17 candidates for open seats will be on the May online election ballot, including President and Vice President and regional board seats
Published: February 20, 2026

The big update: The ballot for this spring’s election for statewide officers, including IEA president, and board of director seats is set.

Also: Voting in the online election determining who will represent IEA at July’s NEA Representative Assembly has closed. Results of that election will be announced in April at IEA’s annual Delegate Assembly by IEA President Layne McInelly.

Who is on the ballot: In all, 17 candidates put their name forward for IEA’s top leadership positions before Tuesday’s nomination deadline. Here are the offices that will be on the ballot for May’s online election:

  • President

  • Vice president

  • Chair of the Resolutions Committee

  • ESP-at-large

  • Retired educator

  • Aspiring educator

  • One board seat each for regions 1-8, which cover all of Idaho except for the West Ada Education Association (Region 9 does not have an election this year). All IEA regions have two representatives on the IEA board, except Region 7 (the Boise Education Association), which has three.

What happens next: The online election will be held May 6-14. Voting credentials and online ballots will be emailed and texted to all eligible members. Any members who need to update their personal email address on record with the IEA can start that process by emailing [email protected]

Why it matters: As a member-led union, election participation is crucial to shaping the future of IEA. The IEA Board of Directors governs major decisions on behalf of Idaho’s union.
