What’s happening: A new, member-led support group is forming for educators of multilingual learners (ML or MLL) who wish to connect with other Idaho Education Association members who understand the work.

Why it matters: Idaho counts more than 18,000 multilingual learners in its public schools, speaking everything from Spanish to Somali to Swahili — and the educators who serve those students need support.

Living up to its purpose: The new group grew out of conversations among ML educators about how helpful it is to have peers to lean on, which can be rare in the role. Cassie Arana, one of the organizers of the group, said the group will:

• Talk through challenges

• Share strategies that actually work

• Support one another through the ups and downs of the job

Who can join?: Any IEA member who serves as an ML educator may join, no matter their experience. The group will meet online once a quarter.

How to get involved: Interested ML educators may contact Cassie Arana at [email protected]. More details will be shared via email.
