IEA Seeks New Region Director

The union is looking for a sharp, strategic advocate for public school educators in Western Idaho.

The role: Based at Idaho Education Association headquarters in Boise, the new Western Idaho Region Director will help strengthen local education associations by helping members win fair pay, benefits and working conditions. The RD (known as a UniServ director in other states) will help train leaders, build local contract negotiation skills and organize campaigns that build union power.  

Who should apply: Believers in public education and the labor movement. This role requires diplomacy and toughness, as well as an understanding of school district budgets, education policy and organizing 

What the RD will do:  

Support and train local association leaders 

•  Aid organizing and recruitment efforts 

• Assist with contract bargaining and grievance work 

• Build relationships with educators and the community 

• Coordinate advocacy on policy, legislative and electoral fronts 

Preferred skills: Ideal candidates have organizing experience, leadership skills, a degree in an education-related field, teaching certification and five years of professional education experience in an institution of public education, and substantial participation in national, state and local associations.
