IEA Elects New Board

The big picture: This IEA board election drove some of the highest voter participation numbers in years, with 11 seats on the board up for grabs.  Held April 23-May 1, every IEA active member was eligible to vote in the online election. 

Why it matters: The newly elected Board members will shape IEA policy and direction during their term, representing educators across Idaho’s districts. 

By the numbers: 

• National Education Association Director: Lindsey Smith (Lewiston EA) won with 52.7% of votes 
• At-Large: Darcie DeLeon (Twin Falls EA) secured near-unanimous support (99.45%) 
• Region 7: Most competitive race with Amber Armstrong (Boise EA) garnering 39% of votes and Cassie Horner (Boise EA) with 34.71% winning those two seats 
• Statewide: Most regional candidates ran unopposed, securing 98-100% of votes 

Regional representation: 

• Connie Wilkerson (Region 1, Lakeland EA), Stacy Wescott (Region 3, Fruitland EA), Aneatra Walker (Region 5, American Falls EA), Melyssa Ferro (Region 8, Caldwell EA), and Carmi Scheller (Region 9, West Ada EA) all won their respective races 

Also notable: 

• Mary Lee Ruch will serve retired members with overwhelming backing (98.68%) 

What’s next: The new board members will begin their official terms on Aug. 1, just in time for the Aug. 4-5 board meeting. The NEA director will begin her official term on Sept. 1, after NEA confirms the results.
