The gist: The IEA-affiliated Center for Teaching and Learning is now accepting proposals for the next Summer Institute, which will take place from July 28-31 at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston.

  • The deadline for proposals is Feb. 2, 2026.
  • Summer Institute registration opens in April 2026.
  • The tentative theme for the event is “Clues to Excellence: Unlocking the Secrets of Success.”

Why it’s important: Summer Institute is the top professional development opportunity for educators in Idaho.

  • Classes are developed and taught by educators for educators.
  • Past class topics have ranged from instructional practice to educator self-care to advocacy for educators.
  • Attendees can earn up to four continuing education credits from Idaho State University.
  • Summer Institute is free for IEA members and includes lodging. Non-IEA members may participate for a fee.

What they’re saying: Last summer, approximately 200 IEA members attended Summer Institute. Here’s some of the feedback from the 2025 event:

  • “As a first-year teacher, the professional development courses helped elevate my knowledge from my degree and helped me make connections from my college courses to actual classroom situations BEFORE entering the classroom myself.” — Avery Tabb, West Bonner County Education Association
  • “Every year I am blown away by the quality and variety of classes offered. I love getting to meet teachers from across the state.” — Amanda Bevan, Teton Education Association
  • “We had amazing classes, people, and food! IEA knew how to empower all of us teachers. I would love to keep attending IEA Summer Institute even if I do not need recertification credits for my life enrichment!” — June Woodall, Rexburg Education Association
