Board Member Peggy Hoy Appointed to New, One-Year IEA Organizing Position

June 7, 2024

Peggy Hoy, the Idaho Education Association’s current representative on the National Education Association’s Board of Directors, has accepted a newly created governance position within the IEA.

As the IEA’s governance union organizer, Hoy will work with local governance leaders to build engagement among members, including increasing advocacy across the state and encouraging stronger local and regional participation. She will also help identify and nurture the next generation of IEA leaders.

“This role was designed specifically for a member organizer and leader,” says IEA President Layne McInelly. “Peggy has spent decades serving her fellow members and advancing the IEA, and few people know the organization, its mission, and its potential as she does. Her exceptional interpersonal skills and her expertise make her a natural fit for this new position.”

Hoy’s new role was made possible through a grant from the NEA and the cooperation of the Twin Falls School District, where Hoy has been employed for 33 years. She will serve in the full-time release position for one year.

“Peggy’s outreach will help us build a larger, more engaged membership,” McInelly says. “A unified, collective voice will give us a stronger say in Statehouse decisions and allow us to be better advocates for educators as students as they face an onslaught of anti-public education efforts.”

In addition, Hoy will support local unions as they transition to IEA AutoPay, facilitate the exchange of best practices among locals as they work to achieve membership and leadership goals, and develop metrics and collect data to evaluate the effectiveness of the organization’s initiatives and programs.
