Feb 7 – IEA members and staff put in countless hours of work in support of pro-public education candidates, as well as local levies, in the election held this past Tuesday. In several areas, candidates backed by significant outside funding and running on platforms of misinformation and bashing of professional educators were on the ballot. Some of them were successful, but pro-public education candidates won out in several other races. And notably, all of the supplemental levies that were on ballots around the state passed, sending a strong message that the public still supports our schools and wants the best for students. Idaho Education News has a thorough summary of the election results pertinent to public education.
We want to express our gratitude to all who supported and campaigned for the righteous cause of our students and our profession. Much more work lies ahead if we are to protect the core values of our profession.
