We believe public education is a true public good that transforms lives and creates a more just and inclusive society making it an indispensable cornerstone of our American democratic republic. Together, we defend the teaching profession and believe public education is strengthened when educators are respected for their contributions to our state and its families.
The best argument for public education in Idaho is the good, simple truth of what happens in our members’ classrooms each and every day.
Layne McInelly,
IEA President and Public School Educator

🙏 Lapwai Educator’s Faith in Students Pays Off 🙏
Lapwai Education Association member Matthew Morgan has deep faith in his students. So when he heard about the National American Indian Science and Engineering Fair, he signed them up.
Never mind that competitors from other states had spent the better part of a year working on their projects, or that his students hadn’t even started theirs. Forget that he had no money to fund their efforts. Or that the competition was two months away. In Oklahoma.
Two months later, Morgan was jumping up and down in the back of an auditorium in Stillwater as his students were honored for their robotics work — not once, but twice.
Lapwai Middle/High School students NaTalia Bisbee, Noua Maconnell and Isaiah Painter created an underwater robot that hunts walleye, an invasive species that decimates the salmon so critical to the Niimiipuu (also known as Nez Perce) people.

It’s a bittersweet day at the IEA.
Today, we celebrated Venny Baker’s retirement after 36 years of service to the Idaho Education Association and our educator members across the state.
Her colleagues, past and present, spoke highly of her patience, kindness, and professionalism while working for the union.
We wish her well during this next chapter of life! Congratulations, Venny!

✨ Vallivue Back to School Fair Gets National Recognition✨
Princess Moss has been hearing about the great work of Idaho Education Association members for a while now.
But when the Vallivue Education Association’s annual Back to School Fair was “lifted up” to her, she had to see this standout event for herself. That’s how the vice president of the National Education Association found herself helping Canyon County families sort through piles of donated clothing to find the just-right back-to-school outfits for their students.
“It is absolutely amazing to see how the local association is working with the school district, the community, and parents to ensure our kids have what they need for back to school,” Moss said. “Connections mean everything, and this is one example of how a local association can work with the community to get things done for our students.”

Isn’t educator professional development so boring?
Don’t tell Kirsten, Carmi or Angie — facilitators of a half-day Summer Institute session called “The Games People Play: Using Games for Learning - Strategies Across Ages and Subjects.”
SI attendees learned how to enhance their teaching through gamification, making learning more accessible and enjoyable.
This was one of many sessions that happened across the Lewis-Clark State College campus today — where hundreds of Idaho educators and IEA members gathered for learning and connection.
