2024 Nominations for IEA Board Seats and RA Delegates Open

December 21, 2023

Two opportunities for IEA members to represent their colleagues in the work of the Idaho Education Association are now open at the state and national levels.

Nominations for six candidates to fill seats on IEA’s May Board of Directors will be accepted until Feb. 12, while nominations for delegates to the National Education Association’s 2024 Representative Assembly (RA) will be accepted until Jan. 19.

“One of the great strengths of this union is its democratic nature. Its goals, focus and action are all determined and directed by our members — all of you,” said IEA President Layne McInelly. “Our collective strength and effectiveness as Idaho’s most important education experts and fiercest advocates for student, educator and public education is directly related to the level of engagement from you and your colleagues.”

2024 NEA Representative Assembly

Known as the world’s largest democratic deliberative assembly, the RA gathers thousands of union members from all over the nation to set policy and chart the direction of the association. The 2024 RA will be held in Philadelphia, July 3-7. The deadline for delegate nominations is Jan. 19.

RA delegates are elected by zones determined through local union membership and approved IEA’s Board of Directors annually. Each nominee must fill out this nomination form and this criminal history certification and return them to McInelly by email (lmcinelly@idahoea.org), mail or in person.

IEA Board of Directors Election

The nomination deadline for candidates to the IEA Board of Directors in the 2024 election cycle is Feb. 12. Six board of director seats will be on the May election ballot for 2024 election cycle. They are seats representing:

  • Region 2 (Moscow-Lewiston area)
  • Region 4 (Magic Valley area)
  • Region 6 (Idaho Falls-Salmon area)
  • Region 7 (Boise area)
  • Region 9 (West Ada)
  • Aspiring Educators (Statewide)

“Each of these engagement opportunities are perfect examples of your union’s fundamental nature as a member-driven, democratic association that fights for the issues you help to define,” McInelly said. “Your participation and engagement can only make us stronger and even more reflective of the priorities you are passionate about.
