The members of the Idaho Education Association, Idaho’s oldest and largest public employee union, are looking for an enthusiastic and organized senior accountant for various responsibilities in our business office

Job Function and Purpose:

Based in IEA’s headquarters in downtown Boise and under the supervision of the Director of Business and Finance, the senior accountant ensures the smooth daily financial and membership operations (including AutoPay coordination) of IEA, and assumes responsibility for payroll, human resources and employee benefits. In addition, the senior accountant is responsible for all administrative, financial, and reporting functions of the IEA Children’s Fund.

Qualifications Include:

  • Three years of significant bookkeeping/accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Significant experience with a variety of accounting applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred; 15 completed college hours in accounting at a minimium

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Office skills including telephone techniques, punctuation, spelling, English usage, composition, proofreading, filing, office equipment operation.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently, being self-directed and able to complete projects within timelines without direct supervision.
  • Basic knowledge of computer operations and ability to learn advanced operations and more efficient use of computer programs.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in workplace training.

Duties:

  • Assist the Director of Business and Finance in completion of daily business affairs of the business office.

  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of accounting software and NEA membership/financial systems, as well as Microsoft Office applications utilized by the Association.

  • Prepare IEA Children’s Fund reports and present them to the Children’s Fund Board.

  • Assist the Director of Business and Finance and the Manager of Administrative Services in coordinating staff training for IEA financial, budget and membership processes.

  • Provide local treasurer training and oversight.

  • Process monthly payroll and human resource documents, and administer employee benefits paperwork.

  • Maintain IEA human resources files as required by law and IEA record retention policy

  • Ensure timely payment of recurring payroll and benefit obligations.

  • Ensure timely PERSI reporting of monthly retirement plan contributions, periodic sick leave, and Notice of Change in Employment Status (Form RS109).

  • Assist the Director of Business and Finance in the Development, coordination, implementation, and continuous monitoring of eDues processes.

  • Assist staff with financial and membership matters.

  • Prepare IEA personal property reports and track IEA property and equipment.

  • Assist the Director of Business and Finance in coordinating the IEA Children’s Fund silent auction at annual Delegate Assembly.

  • Assist the Director of Business and Finance in coordinating record management for the Business Office.

  • Assist in the budgeting process by providing data and reports as requested by the Director of Business and Finance.

  • Assist the auditors in annual audit process by providing the auditors with account analysis and documentation, as required.

  • Assist with monthly general ledger closing.

  • Maintain confidentiality of IEA financial and HR/benefits records.

  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Compensation:

Annual salary range is $70,490-114,136 depending on experience. Generous benefits package including full family health, dental, and vision insurance; paid vacations and holiday leave; and 401(k).
