If you’re worried about the fallout from Idaho’s first private school voucher scheme, three upcoming town halls will allow you to voice your concerns — and learn what’s next.
Save Our Schools Idaho, part of the Idaho Education Association’s coalition in the union’s May Matters campaign, will host the town halls in the Treasure Valley. IEA members, as well as other public education allies, will participate in panel discussions at the events.
Meridian Town Hall: 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, Renaissance High Study Lounge, 1307 East Central Drive, Meridian.
Eagle Town Hall: 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, April 24, Eagle High School Cafeteria, 574 North Park Lane, Eagle.
Kuna Town Hall: 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, April 25, Fremont Middle School Cafeteria, 441 East Porter Street, Kuna.
West Boise Town Hall: 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, Centennial High School Auditorium, 12400 West McMillan Road, Boise.
Space for each event will be limited and RSVPs are strongly encouraged.
IEA members will be part of every conversation. Currently scheduled panelists and moderators will include Rep. Soñia Galaviz of the Boise Education Association, Alicia Purdy of the Vallivue Education Association, Lisa Callaway of the West Ada Education Association and Kelee Robinson of the Kuna Education Association.
“I speak every day in front of my students, but ironically, I have a fear of public speaking in larger audiences,” Callaway said. “When I was asked to join the panel, I agreed to face my fear because it is that important for educators to have a voice.”
They will be joined by public education experts and advocates from the Idaho Parent Teacher Association, the Idaho School Boards Association, school district trustees and current and former administrators.
“The town halls are an opportunity to create a shared understanding of what challenges we face for our public schools,” Callaway said.
These events are the first of many to come over the next few months, with additional town halls planned throughout the state.
