General Statement of Responsibility:
The Executive Director, working in conjunction with the CTL Board, oversees all aspects of the organization including planning, budgeting, goal setting, fundraising, operations, coordination with Idaho Education Association (IEA) staff, and relationships with external stakeholders. The Executive Director will work closely with the CTL Board, IEA Staff, and educator trainers to ensure the professional development produced by the CTL is high quality, responsive to the needs of educators, and reflects the values of our organization.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities:
Board
• Works with the CTL Board, developing metrics on what constitutes success, creating tangible objectives with deadlines, and putting plans in place to track progress toward those goals
• Works collaboratively with the CTL Board to vet and approve new programs, trainers, professional development, and partnerships
• Works with IEA members and staff to create and promote a training schedule, credits,during the year
• This position reports to the Center for Teaching and Learning Board of Directors.
• Works with CTL Board, IEA staff, and member trainers to plan for and execute a successful Summer Institute
• Other duties as assigned Community
• Pursues new funding sources and serves as the primary representative of the CTL when seeking funds and support from other organizations
• Leads and collaborates with IEA staff and CTL board on the aspirational vision for the organization and translates the vision to partners, donors and stakeholders
• Develops and manages relationships with institutional partners such as the Idaho State Department of Education, State Board of Education, school districts, the National Education Association and state affiliates, and financial donors
• Manages high-level communication with partners and crafts and executes documents on behalf of the organization
• Works collaboratively with IEA communications department to plan and support a communication strategy and advance public relations with the goal of expanding foundation support, engaging stakeholders, and promoting the Idaho Education Association
• Engages in public speaking to further the mission and raise awareness about the work of the organization
• Represents the foundation in appropriate professional groups, organizations, associations and community
• Shares work of the IEA and CTL around grant efforts with other NEA state affiliates on NEA 360 and professional development staff opportunities
Administrative
• Oversees NEA GPS grant work to assure fidelity and accountability
• Works collaboratively with the Chair of the Board of Directors to ensure that the board meetings are well-planned, critical topics are covered, and strategic objectives are being met per fiscal calendar
• Develops an operating budget with the approval of CTL Board and reports at each Board meeting
• Works with the business office to reimburse trainers and pay per diems
• Ensures compliance with all IRS, state and other regulations as required by law
• Serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Treasure/Secretary for the Center for Teaching and Learning
This position will largely involve an extensive remote working environment, with IEA providing office space when it becomes available and as it is needed. The position will require travel to some in-person meetings and other engagements in/around the state. This is a full-time
position with irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, and requires flexibility in scheduling.
Required Qualifications
• A minimum of five years experience in a similar position and responsibilities
• Fundraising experience, including individual donors and business sponsors, and experience writing, submitting and managing grants
• A demonstrated record of excellent communication (written and oral) and experience as an effective public speaker
• Proven leadership skills: a mission-driven attitude, excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work in and sustain a collaborative team model
• Motivation and willingness to work collaboratively with the CTL Board of Directors to further the development of the organization
• Ability to see the big picture and craft partnerships that support public education
• Places value on member-led approaches to challenges, opportunities and solutions
• People-oriented and enjoys interacting with diverse stakeholders
