IEA Elections
The Idaho Education Association’s democratic nature is one of its greatest strengths as a union. Elections for two opportunities for engaging as an IEA leader will be held in early 2025:
- IEA Board of Directors election: April 23-May 1
- Idaho delegate to the National Education Association’s annual Representative Assembly election: Feb. 12-20
Nominations for both opportunities are now open. Links to required timelines, guidelines forms and other paperwork for all candidates can be found below. All completed candidate nomination paperwork for IEA elections must be emailed to IEA President Layne McInelly at lmcinelly@idahoea.org or mailed to the address at the bottom of this page.
IEA Board of Directors
IEA members will elect 10 of their fellow members to the IEA Board of Directors during the 2025 election cycle.
The nomination deadline for candidates is Feb. 3.
The final statewide election to select board members will be held April 23-May 1. All IEA members will receive an online ballot via email.
Nominees for board seats now being accepted for April’s election include:
- NEA Director (Idaho’s representative on the NEA board)
- At-Large
- Retired
- Aspiring Educator
- Region 1 (Coeur d’Alene area)
- Region 3 (Payette/McCall/Middleton areas)
- Region 5 (Pocatello area)
- Region 7 – two seats (Boise area)
- Region 8 (Nampa/Caldwell/Mountain Home area)
- Region 9 (West Ada)

2025 Representative Assembly
Idaho will send approximately 15 statewide delegates to the 2025 NEA RA in Portland, July 2-6.
The nomination deadline to serve as one of Idaho’s statewide RA representatives is Jan. 24.
The final statewide election to select delegates will be held online Feb. 12-20. All IEA members will receive an online ballot via email.
Known as the world’s largest democratic deliberative assembly, NEA’s RA gathers thousands of union members from all over the nation to set policy and chart the direction of the association.
Individual IEA locals are also eligible to send delegates to RA. Please ask your local union president to learn more about representing your local at RA.

2024-2025 Election Timeline
December 9, 2024
- Nominations open for state RA delegates and IEA Board of Directors seats
- RA resumes of candidates, RA tentative zones, and RA election timeline sent to all LUPs, region presidents, IEA BOD and region directors via email
- Electronic resumes of candidates posted to IEA website for online submission
- IEA nomination form, exhibit K, board roles and responsibilities, and board code of ethics sent to all LUPs, region presidents, IEA BOD and region directors via email (re: IEA Board of Directors seats)
- Election timeline and candidate nomination form posted on IEA website
- Email sent to members with candidate nomination form and election timeline
December 2024
- Nomination and election notice in IEA communication mailed to all members
- Notice to include: information about electronic voting procedures and to visit the IEA website for more information
- Reminder to LUPs to verify their members’ email addresses on file with their region offices
January 6, 2025
- RA resume of candidate deadline reminder emailed to all LUPs, region presidents, IEA BOD and region directors
January 24, 2025
- Deadline for submission of state RA resume of candidate forms
- Forms must be sent to IEA president. Forms must be hand delivered, electronically received or a hard copy received by this date
January 31, 2025
- Deadline for submission of constitution and bylaw amendments to the IEA Board of Directors for review
February 1, 2025
- IEA Board of Directors will review and approve RA candidate list and finalized RA zones based on January 15 membership numbers
- IEA Board of Directors will review and approve the finalized RA
February 3, 2025
- IEA Board of Directors and statewide position candidate nomination forms reminder emailed to all LUPs, region presidents, IEA BOD, region directors
- Deadline for IEA board of directors and statewide position candidate nomination forms. Forms must be sent to IEA president. Forms must be hand delivered, electronically received, or a hard copy received by this date

- Deadline: Voting credentials for state RA delegates sent to all eligible members’ email addresses
February 18, 2025
- Deadline: All local delegates for Delegate Assembly are due to the IEA Headquarters Office. Delegate lists are to be submitted online at www.idahoea.org/delegates
February 20, 2025
- Deadline: 5 p.m. MDT electronic balloting for state RA delegates closes
February 21, 2025
- RA ballots counted and candidates notified of results; results announced again at Delegate Assembly
- RA delegates encouraged to begin raising money for NEAFCPE
