We believe public education is a true public good that transforms lives and creates a more just and inclusive society making it an indispensable cornerstone of our American democratic republic. Together, we defend the teaching profession and believe public education is strengthened when educators are respected for their contributions to our state and its families.
The best argument for public education in Idaho is the good, simple truth of what happens in our members’ classrooms each and every day.
Layne McInelly,
IEA President and Public School Educator

IEA got a huge shoutout from the stage at #NEARA! The delegation wore their “Everyone Is Welcome Here” shirts — and the support from around the country was the perfect reminder: In our schools, everyone really is welcome. That’s the power of public education.

All aboard! The Idaho delegation lucked out with PERFECT weather for a cruise on the Willamette yesterday evening complete with tacos, tall tales from our captain, and a bit of fun before NEA RA officially kicks off bright and (very) early today.

“Everyone Is Welcome Here” is illegal in Idaho classrooms - at least according to Attorney General Raúl Labrador and Idaho lawmakers who passed House Bill 41 this year.
What a RIDICULOUS concept!
To be clear:
⭕ A universal message of inclusion and belonging is now considered political propaganda.
⭕ Federal and state laws already prohibit discrimination in schools. If welcoming every student is partisan, what isn’t?
“To say that ‘Everyone is Welcome’ in a public school system is not political; it’s the law.” — Sarah Inama in a recent news article on the subject (https://bit.ly/4liZGKb)
⭐ “Everyone is welcome” isn’t political—it’s the foundation of public education.

🕯️ In unity and strength, we stand together 🕯️
Today, our hearts are heavy mourning the tragic ambush on Canfield Mountain near Coeur d’Alene on June 29, 2025. Battalion Chiefs Frank Harwood (42) of Kootenai County Fire & Rescue and John Morrison (52) of the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department were bravely responding to a wildfire when they were brutally attacked, and a third colleague, Engineer David Tysdal (47), remains critically injured.
Their sacrifice reminds us of the bravery and dedication of all public servants—and underscores why our communities rely on them every single day.
To the families, loved ones, and departments who lost more than just colleagues, you are not alone. Public servants across Idaho—including our educator members—are standing shoulder to shoulder with you.
