Because of an Educator

We all have at least one great public school educator who saw something in us. Encouraged us. Took time for us. Inspired us. Fought for us. Who is yours, and what would you say to that educator if you could?

Protect Your Membership

Anti-public education politicians want to weaken our union and silence our voice by removing your option to pay your dues through payroll deduction. Switching to IEA AutoPay today ensures you have a voice in the future of public education and your profession.

It’s a one-time change that only takes a minute or two to complete.

We are Idaho's Public School Educators.

As the Idaho Education Association, we support and advocate for all of our educator colleagues across the state — elementary and secondary teachers, education support professionals, school administrators, aspiring educators and retired educators.

Learn about IEA

We believe public education is a true public good that transforms lives and creates a more just and inclusive society making it an indispensable cornerstone of our American democratic republic. Together, we defend the teaching profession and believe public education is strengthened when educators are respected for their contributions to our state and its families.

The best argument for public education in Idaho is the good, simple truth of what happens in our members’ classrooms each and every day.

Layne McInelly,

IEA President and Public School Educator

🚨 Gutierrez: Classroom Flag Bill is Dangerous for Idaho Youth 🚨

"House Bill 10 is dangerous for Idaho’s youth. It is a clear attempt to further marginalize students who are already vulnerable in our state. The LGBTQ+ flag is the specific target of this bill.

According to data collected by The Trevor Project in 2023, 52% of LGBTQ+ youth in Idaho seriously considered suicide, and 19% attempted suicide. This is why I display a rainbow flag in my classroom: to show these students that they matter and that their lives have worth.

This is not a political statement. It is not meant to influence students’ beliefs. It is simply a means of suicide prevention."

⚠️ House Bill 10, a bill banning the display of flags in public schools with few exceptions, will be heard by the House Education Committee tomorrow, Jan. 16 at 9am.

⭐ 1 week until our Lobby Day kick-off!

IEA Lobby Day — traditionally held every year during the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday — is perhaps Idaho’s most important day of advocacy for public education. It’s a unique opportunity for Idaho policymakers to hear directly from energized educators about the support needed to create the free and equitable public schools that Idaho students deserve.
