We are Idaho's
Public School Educators.

As the Idaho Education Association, we support and advocate for all of our educator colleagues across the state — elementary and secondary teachers, education support professionals, school administrators, aspiring educators and retired educators.

Idaho Education Association

About Us

We believe public education is a true public good that transforms lives and creates a more just and inclusive society making it an indispensable cornerstone of our American democratic republic. Together, we defend the teaching profession and believe public education is strengthened when educators are respected for their contributions to our state and its families.

The best argument for public education in Idaho is the good, simple truth of what happens in our members’ classrooms each and every day.

Layne McInelly,

IEA President and Public School Educator

Education Support Professionals Day is an important mark during American Education Week — celebrating the many different professionals required to facilitate public education in Idaho and across our country.

It`s the first day of American Education Week and we`re excited to celebrate the work and impact of public educators across our state!

And, we join @NEAToday and many other organizations in highlighting the essential role of public education in our country.

Did you know that the first American Education Week occurred in 1921? Read more about its history, courtesy of the NEA:

"Distressed that 25 percent of the country`s World War I draftees were illiterate and 9 percent were physically unfit, representatives of the NEA and the American Legion met in 1919 to seek ways to generate public support for education. The first observance of American Education Week occurred December 4-10, 1921, with the NEA and American Legion as the cosponsors. A year later, the then U.S. Office of Education joined the effort as a cosponsor, and the PTA followed in 1938."

Idaho Education Association members endorsed a slate of pro-public education candidates throughout the state for the Idaho Legislature.

As part of the endorsement process, IEA asked candidates to respond to a questionnaire about the issues that are most crucial to Idaho’s public school educators. As we approach the crucial Nov. 5 election, we’re sharing their responses.
