Idaho Education Association-supported refining education standards successfully worked its way thought the legislative process this week with approval by the Senate Education Committee on Thursday.
Two legislative acts endorsing new math, English language arts and science standards were overwhelmingly approved by House of Representatives on March 7 and will be considered by the full Senate early next week for final legislative endorsement.
Educators, including IEA members, were part of a committee that worked with lawmakers on the new standards over the past year. The committee approved two proposals on Thursday that together serve to replace the old standards by July 1:
“Our members thought the process was thorough and well done,” IEA Executive Director Paul Stark told lawmakers. “We always think things turn out better when educators are at the table.”
