Feb 11th – McInelly and Hoy Participate in NEA “Super Week”
IEA President Layne McInelly and NEA Director Peggy Hoy spent time this week lobbying members of Congress around a number of national legislative issues as part of NEA’s “Super Week.”
In their virtual outreach in Washington, D.C., they talked with federal lawmakers about:
- Guaranteed paid sick leave to help working families and curb COVID
- Passing the omnibus funding bill that includes historic investments in education
- Unfair government pension offset (GPO) and windfall elimination provision (WEP) penalties and strengthen Social Security for all.
McInelly and Hoy are discussing how these national issues impact Idaho and its educators.

Feb 7th – IEA President Layne McInelly Interview with Boise State Public Radio
IEA President Layne McInelly spoke with George Prentice from Boise State Public Radio about the state of education in Idaho and the ongoing legislative session. They discussed the staffing crisis the Idaho public education system faces and some of the factors making it challenging to retain Idaho teachers.
“We need to treat the educators like the professionals that they are, and when they get that respect, educators are going to want to continue to teach,” said McInelly.

Nov 1, 2021 – IEA President Layne McInelly and Region 6 Region Director Beage Atwater recently visited with local associations in Salmon and Arco. They talked with members about the Advanced Professional Educator rung of the Career Ladder, including how to meet the leadership benchmarks. They also listened to the concerns of members relating to both local and statewide issues.
“It is important that we keep our finger on the pulse of what matters to our members in rural areas, and it was very rewarding to have those conversations with our dedicated members in Salmon and Arco,” said McInelly.
