VOTE! Interim VP Special Election Open Through Thursday

A special Idaho Education Association election is underway to select an interim vice president.

Each IEA member should have received an official election email last week with a link to their online ballot. Voting will be open until 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 8 (MST). Those who did not receive an email should contact IEA immediately at  contact@idahoea.org.

Candidates for the role are Deanna Didier of the Lewiston Education Association in IEA’s Region 2 and Jon Hawkes of the Snake River Education Association in Region 5. As required by IEA policy, Didier and Hawks were nominated as candidates by IEA’s board of directors last month.

The winner will finish the remainder of the current three-year vice president term, which ends in July. Mary Anne McGrory stepped down from the role in October after serving in several statewide IEA leadership roles over the last nine years.

A permanent vice president will be elected to a full three-year term during IEA’s regular elections in May, with the new term beginning August 1. In addition to vice president, May’s board election will include balloting for IEA president, resolutions committee chairperson, the education support professional at large seat, the aspiring educator seat, one retired educator seat, and one board seat each from eight of IEA’s nine regions.
