Our 2021 Annual Meeting and Delegate Assembly will be held virtually this year on Saturday, April 17th. This annual gathering is essential to our mission to elevate the voices of professional educators and advocate for the Schools Our Students Deserve, as our members provide direction for the policies we emphasize during the coming year. We value the input and experience of our members, and Delegate Assembly is the most visible example of the IEA being a democratic, member-driven organization.
Delegates are elected through voting by local education associations, and each local conducts balloting independently and with their own timelines and procedures. Contact your local education association for information on voting policies and how you can run for a delegate position. Delegates typically also meet with their region caucus to discuss priorities for the general meeting. They can also participate in separate meetings of groups like the ESP Caucus and the Women’s and Minority Caucus.
2021 NEA Representative Assembly to be Held Virtually
The National Education Association voted recently to hold their 2021 Representative Assembly virtually in order to ensure the safety of all participants. Typically, thousands of delegates from around the country gather to discuss, debate and vote on key issues related to public education and NEA business, but because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, an in-person RA had to be put on hold.
For IEA members interested in becoming a delegate to the virtual NEA Representative Assembly, here is information about the process.
- Download the NEA RA 2021 resume form from idahoea.org/ieaelections. Return the completed form by January 22, 2021.
- Electronic ballots will be emailed to all active and retired IEA members on February 12, 2021.
- Electronic balloting closes at 5:00 PM MST, February 26, 2021.
- Candidates for RA delegate will be notified of the results on or about February 27, 2021.
The NEA and IEA are committed to ethnic minority involvement and strongly encourage ethnic minority members to apply to be delegates.
