On Saturday, March 6 th, 44 delegates to the 2010 IEA Delegate Assembly (DA) and leaders from Region 1 gathered to support public schools and to build a stronger regional organization.
The day began at 8:30 a.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library with a meeting of the Panhandle Coalition. At this meeting, IEA members shared concerns about the future of public schools in northern Idaho with community members and area legislators Senators John Goedde (R-Coeur d’Alene) and Jim Hammond (R-Coeur d’Alene), and Representatives Frank Henderson (R-Post Falls), Bob Nonini (R-Coeur d’Alene), and George Sayler (D-Coeur d’Alene).
Following the Coalition meeting, Region 1 participants moved to Post Falls High School to continue discussions on Schools in Crisis-Building Coalitions. Participants left this session with strategies for identifying support for public schools and for positively influencing that support.
The second general session focused on orientation and information for delegates to the IEA DA. In the afternoon, participants selected from a variety of informational sessions:
- Membership: Maintaining a Member Focused Association
- Identifying, Recruiting, Training, and Involving New Leaders
- ESP Caucus
- PACE Training
- Everything a Building Rep Should Know
The Region 1 Mini-Delegate Assembly is scheduled for March 23 at the Best Western Coeur d’Alene Inn beginning at 5 pm.
