Governor Little has issued a “stay at home” order for all Idahoans, effective immediately and lasting a minimum of 21 days. We thank the Governor for taking this action to protect the well-being of everyone in our great state. In light of Governor Little’s edict, the Idaho Education Association is issuing the following recommendations related to K-12 public schools.
1-School districts should not require teachers or other staff to report to school buildings during this time unless absolutely necessary.
2-Should districts deem it necessary to bring staff into buildings, they should use extreme caution and take these steps to ensure the health and safety of employees.
- Clean and sanitize all classrooms and workspaces
- Ensure maximum social distancing protocols are being used
- Set up staggered or alternative schedules to limit the number of staff in buildings at any given time
3-Districts should provide exemptions for employees who are over the age of 60, immunocompromised, have underlying medical conditions, or are caring for a loved one.
4–Districts should utilize school nurses to monitor the health of staff and ensure that nurses have all of the necessary equipment and supplies.
5-Districts should maintain a steady flow of communication with employees, parents, and students as circumstances change.
