The Idaho Education Association hosted the 2013 Delegate Assembly at the Boise Center recently, with nearly 400 members attending from around the state. The event included substantive discussion on the future path of education in Idaho and efforts that the IEA will make to ensure that the expertise and insight of educators is prioritized in the decision-making process. The IEA also took advantage of the opportunity to present annual awards to some key members who made invaluable contributions to their schools and communities.
The IEA approved the appointment of an Instructional and Professional Development (IPD) committee, which will focus on programs and activities that will put members at the forefront of education advancement. Professional development and additional training for members is a top priority for the IEA as education policy continues to evolve in Idaho and throughout the country.
Receiving recognition in the 2013 Awards Presentation were:
Boise School District Board of Trustees–2013 Friend of Education Award
LaDean Messenger–Shane Anderson Outstanding Member Award
Debra Hitesman–Membership Recruiter Award
Region 5 members Kelley Ragan, Liana Litzinger and Bekki Mangum–Larry Caldwell Advocacy Award
