UPDATED: The registration deadline for Idaho Education Academy classes has been extended to October 1.
Registration has begun for new Idaho Education Academy classes that aim to help teachers stop teen bullying and discover how good teachers become great ones.
Jennie Withers, the Idaho-based author of the book Hey, Back OFF! Tips for Stopping Teen Harassment (September 2011, New Horizon Press), will be the instructor for a new class by that name. With statistics showing that as many as one in three students are bullied at school – and with cyber bullying via text messaging and social media on the rise – this course will help teachers learn new ways to help stop the bullying epidemic.
“What Great Teachers Do Differently: 14 Things That Matter Most” makes the case there’s no secret about moving from being a good teacher to a great one. This course will help participants explore ways to reflect on their teaching and emerge a more mature and focused teacher.
Special: Take “What Great Teachers Do Differently” with a partner(s) and each of you will receive a 5 percent refund from the instructor’s fee at the end of the semester. In addition, take any two courses from the Academy this fall, and receive an additional 10 percent refund. Other classes include:
- Stress Management for Teachers
- Students Who Drive You Crazy
- Teaching Creativity
- Hey, Get a Job!
- The Future of Public Education
- Ethical Dilemmas: the Good, the Bad, the Ugly
- Enhancing Instruction through Power Point
- Portfolios for Authentic Assessment
Idaho Education Academy courses are offered by the Idaho Education Association through Northwest Nazarene University in a partnership with Educational Consulting Services Inc. IEA members get significant discounts on course fees (which are unchanged since last year), and the Idaho Education Academy makes a donation to the IEA Children’s Fund for every course taken.
Registration continues through October 1. Classes run September 19 through December 19, and classes are taken online or via email correspondence, so you can easily fit them into your schedule. See the full list of courses and sign up now.
