Sen. Mitch Toryanski (R-Boise) just asked Superintendent Luna about the lack of public buy-in for his plan. Luna replied that all stakeholder groups were part of the Idaho Education Alliance, and he built its goals and objectives into this plan. He admitted that there was no input on most aspects of the Labor Relations and Employee Entitlements bill, saying that its edicts must be imposed “by leadership, not by consensus.”
Toryanski also asked, “How would you respond to the charge that your plan is a series of one-size-fits all directives that takes local control from districts?” Luna replied that as a Nampa school board member, he found master agreements restrictive and insisted that his plan would give districts more control, not less.
