By a narrow margin of just two votes, the House approved HB 556, legislation sponsored by Rep. Steven Harris (R-Meridian) that would require the inclusion of parent and student input in teacher evaluations.
The Senate Education Committee will now consider the bill that would, over the next few years, increase the weight of student test scores and parental and student input while decreasing the weight of professional practice in teacher evaluations.
The IEA, IASA, and ISBA all oppose the bill.
