Over the objections of the IEA and other education stakeholders, the House Revenue & Taxation Committee approved HB 507, which would grant $10 million in tax credits to fund private school scholarships. The bill’s sponsors, Sen. Bob Nonini (R-Post Falls) and Rep John Vander Woude (R-Nampa), claim that it will lessen the financial burden on public education by encouraging students to switch to private schools. Opponents have serious concerns about the constitutionality of the measure.
