The House Revenue and Taxation Committee printed HB507 co-sponsored by Rep. John Vander Woude (R-Nampa) and Sen. Bob Nonini (R-Post Falls) that would provide $10 million in income tax credits for private school scholarships. The bill is similar to a measure that passed the House last year but did not make it through the Senate.
Proponents contend that shifting more students to private schools would lighten the load and result in savings for public schools. Once again this year, the IEA will vigorously oppose this piece of legislation for many reasons, including the fact that it would drain precious resources away from public schools.
