The Senate Education Committee rejected a rule that updates some of Idaho’s initial teacher certification standards. For several weeks, committee members raised concerns about the Idaho Core Standards and their connection to this particular rule. Last week, members of the House Education Committee passed this rule. In order to reject a rule, both committees must act accordingly. So, today’s action by the Senate panel will have no impact. The rule is adopted.
The committee held off taking action on one remaining rule that addresses physical education requirements. Committee members had requested an opinion from the Idaho attorney general regarding this rule. The letter was delivered today; members requested additional time to review the opinion. The committee may take up further debate on this rule later this week.
