Tom Luna’s announcement earlier this week that he won’t be running for re-election as State Superintendent has set off a flurry of activity in Republican political circles. The most frequently asked question this week seems to be, “So, who’s in the race today?” as potential candidates’ consider their options.
Several would-be candidates have taken to social media this week as they ponder whether to jump into the race.
Former Boise teacher and legislator Steve Smylie reached out to friends on his Facebook page and asked them if he should jump back into the political arena and reconsider a race for Superintendent. On Thursday, Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Idaho Falls) posted this message to his followers, “Let me know your thoughts as I consider running for Superintendent of Public Instruction.”
Both Smylie’s and Thompson’s Facebook posts have received approximately 30 comments and “likes.”
