Typically at this time of the session, lawmakers and lobbyists rush to introduce legislation addressing a myriad of issues. Only a few House and Senate committees are authorized to introduce legislation this late in the session. In the House, the Education Committee is tapped with that responsibility. As a result, House Education Committee members will be spending the next few meetings debating whether to print a number of measures that will ultimately be heard by other legislative committees.
While it is difficult for a piece of legislation introduced this late in the session to make it through the entire legislative process, it is not impossible. Legislative leaders continue to confirm that they are on target to complete their work and adjourn sine die by March 21st.
