Historically, few legislative committees meet on Fridays, especially in the early weeks of the legislative session. Instead, the House and Senate meet briefly and then lawmakers make the trip home to meet with constituents over the weekend.
Neither the House nor Senate Education Committees met on Friday. Some House Education Committee members took a field trip to Garfield Elementary School in Boise to learn more about how the district is using Imagine Learning software to help improve literacy.
Monday may be a holiday for most schools and state agencies, but the legislature will be meeting. Both the House and Senate Education Committees will be reviewing a number of education-related rules. The IEA will be testifying before members of the House Education Committee regarding our concerns about a rule that would make it easier for a district to hire an under-prepared individual and allow the state to grant full certification for up to three years while the individual completes teacher preparation coursework.
