Members of the House Education Committee hit the brakes Monday morning and approved a motion by Rep. Judy Boyle (R-Midvale) detouring SB 1232a to General Orders to be amended. The IEA-sponsored bill would shield a school bus driver from civil or criminal liability in the event he or she came to the aid of a rider who may be in danger.
Rep. Boyle argued against the wording that members of the Senate Education Committee deemed necessary to get their approval on the legislation. The IEA will be working with the bill sponsor, Sen. Janie Ward-Engelking (D-Boise) and with House members who raised concerns, in an attempt to amend the bill and get it approved prior to the end of the session.
