State Sen. Nicole LeFavour asks how many teaching positions would be lost when class sizes increase and when 9th graders start taking two online classes a year. Supt. Luna says 1,600 teachers retire or leave the profession each year, and that will account for the reduced numbers. He also said overall teacher-student ratios will grow from 18.2 to 19.8 to 1.
In a follow-up concerning the parental input that would be required in teacher evaluation, LeFavour asked about negative parental input regarding a teacher who momentarily upset a parent or a teacher who holds religious views different from the majority in a community. Luna says teachers will still have full due-process rights, even without tenure.
