Eight house members recommended the adoption of a P.E. requirement, but rejected language that would have included specific minimum times for P.E. activities. The subcommittee expressed concern about mandated minutes for what is currently an unfunded mandate.
The subcommittee also rejected a portion of a rule that would have more than doubled the required upper-level credit hours for English teachers from 20 to 45.
These and all recommendations regarding education rules must be taken up by the full membership of the House Education Committee.
