The House Education Committee will take public testimony on HB 504, the Leadership Premiums legislation introduced earlier this week by Rep. Lance Clow (R-Twin Falls) and Rep. Julie VanOrden (R-Pingree). The legislation would provide $850 to school districts for every full-time equivalent teacher. The local school board would have the final authority to determine who receives the awards and how much each teacher receives. However, a teacher could not earn less than $850 or more than 25% of the base salary.
The legislation identifies a list of leadership priorities from which a local school district can choose to pay employees the premiums.
Each district would need to report how many leadership premiums they issued, the average dollar amount of the premiums issued, the highest and lowest amount issue, and the percent of staff who received the leadership premiums.
