ITAG/SAGE (Idaho, the Association for the Gifted) made a presentation to members of the Senate Education Committee on the value and need for a vibrant Gifted and Talented program in all Idaho school districts.
As a part of their presentation, ITAG urged committee members to recommend to JFAC that Idaho restore the $1 million in training funds districts lost during the recession. Idaho mandates that districts develop and implement a plan to identify and provide services for gifted students. However, when the economy tanked in 2009, funding cuts removed gifted and talented teacher training as a line item in the public schools budget, effectively halting local training.
