The IEA has been tracking a number of education-related bills this session. All of them are in various stages of the process to becoming a law. Some of them will be approved by the legislature and signed by the governor. Others will not make it through the process before the end of this session. Here is a progress report on just a few of the bills we’re tracking:
- HB 379 Legislative Teacher’s Award – would create a legislative teacher’s award (certificate and $500) to be presented annually in each legislative district. Awaiting a hearing in the Senate Ed Committee
- HB 504 Leadership Premiums – would provide for leadership premium payments to public school educators who serve in a leadership capacity. Passed the House and is awaiting a vote in the Senate
- SB 1232 School Bus Driver Immunity – IEA-sponsored legislation would assure that if a school bus driver comes to the aid of a rider who may be in danger, the driver will be immune from civil or criminal liability. Awaiting a hearing in the House Ed Committee
- SB 1317, 1318, 1319 School Labor laws – extends sunsets on three pieces of labor legislation passed in 2013 to provide additional time to gather data to measure the effectiveness of the laws. Awaiting a hearing in the House Ed Committee
- SB 1326a Class Size Reporting- IEA-sponsored legislation requires the SDE to collect and report data on class size and pupil-teacher ratios. Awaiting a hearing in the House Ed Committee
