It is rare that we receive comments about one of our Hotline stories. However, Thursday’s post regarding HB 379 has people talking. The legislation, introduced by Rep. Linden Bateman (R-Idaho Falls) would provide an award to a public school teacher in the lawmaker’s legislative district for “outstanding service to the public schools.”
The teacher, selected by the local school board, would receive a certificate and $500 paid for from the legislative account, the fund used to compensate legislators and to cover travel and other legislative expenses.
Most of the comments left by Hotline readers questioned the sincerity of the legislation. The bill has not yet received a hearing date. However, if you have strong opinions about this, or any other piece of legislation introduced this session, you can comment directly to the legislative sponsor and/or your own legislators.
