The House voted 34-31 today to pass a bill that would enable every legislator to honor a teacher from their district with a $500 bonus and a customized award certificate. The bill was carried by Rep. Linden Bateman, R-Idaho Falls, who hopes that the bill will be a small step toward recognizing the contribution of Idaho teachers. Among those opposing the bill was Rep. Dell Raybould, R-Rexburg, who expressed concern about fairness due to varying numbers of school districts within each legislative district.
