Over the objections of the IEA, members of the Senate Education Committee sent HB 568 to the floor with a “do pass” recommendation. Bill sponsor Rep. Marc Gibbs (R-Grace) told committee members the bill was a tool Idaho’s smallest school districts need to ensure they have the requisite teaching force.
The IEA opposed the legislation, pointing out that Idaho currently provides alternative certification routes and online courses through the Idaho Education Network to assist school districts to offer a full slate of courses.
The bill now moves to the Senate for their consideration.
