The bill would provide a 50 percent credit on state income taxes to individuals and corporations that make donations to nonprofit scholarship granting organizations (SGOs) to provide scholarships to K-12 students to attend private or religious schools.
The legislature has been grappling with how to eliminate Idaho’s personal property tax law for years. Last year, lawmakers began the process by exempting the first $100,000 in personal property tax for business equipment, which completely eliminated the tax for approximately 90% of all Idaho businesses.
This legislation would expand the personal property tax exemption for business equipment from $100,000 per taxpayer per county to $250,000.
The IEA-sponsored bill would shield a school bus driver from civil or criminal liability in the event he or she came to the aid of a rider who may be in danger.
