2022 General Election Candidate Endorsements
Each 2022 general election candidate listed below earned IEA’s endorsement by representing the pro-education perspective and values of IEA members.
Winners in Nov. 8’s general election are marked in green.
IEA’s Political Action Committee for Education interviewed dozens of candidates seeking endorsement by IEA members during 2022’s election cycle. Each was carefully considered for their views on public education policy.
IEA members believe good education policy is non-partisan, and this bi-partisan list of candidate endorsements reflects that principle. Pro-public education policy stances — not political party affiliation — are the primary requirement to earn an IEA member endorsement.
The list below includes endorsements and results in five statewide races and 48 legislative races across Idaho, as well as a recommendation on a proposed amendment to the Idaho Constitution on this year’s ballot. Races not included below either indicate IEA’s inability to recommend any candidate in that particular race or have little bearing on education issues.
These endorsements reflect Idaho’s new legislative district map adopted last year.

IDAHO CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT
SJR 102 – NO
The proposed amendment to the Idaho Constitution allows the Idaho Legislature to call itself into session at any time. This proposal upends over a century of Idaho political tradition by essentially establishing a full-time Legislature. IEA members believe legislators, in order to responsibly represent their constituents, must spend more time in their communities — including visiting their public school classrooms and meeting with parents, teachers and students — than they spend in the Statehouse. Additionally, each additional day lawmakers are in session costs taxpayers $30,000 dollars and invites more government intrusion into the lives of everyday Idahoans. With regular legislative sessions often lasting up to five months, this constitutional amendment is costly and unneeded.
