House Panel Approves Teacher Evaluation Bill

The legislation would require that districts use a certain percentage of student growth, parental and student input, as well as professional practice to evaluate teachers; and, those percentages would shift every other year until 2020 when at least 50% of a teacher’s evaluation would be based on student growth, at least 15% would be based on parent and student input, and at least 25% would be based on the teacher’s professional practice.

IEN Funding Still in Limbo

JFAC voted 19-0 today to not act on a pair of budget requests for the Idaho Education Network, citing the ongoing uncertainty surrounding federal funding for the project. At issue is $7.3 million to fund IEN through 2014-2015 and $1,096,700 to expand the network into elementary and middle schools around the state.
