With only one dissenting vote, the House Education Committee sent HB 504, to the floor with a recommendation of “do pass.”
Idaho’s Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee opened its doors for a public hearing leading up to budget setting over the next few weeks. 44 people took advantage of the rare opportunity to address the committee, including many with opinions and ideas about public education.
The legislation would provide $850 to school districts for every full-time equivalent teacher. The local school board would have the final authority to determine who receives the awards and how much each teacher receives.
The Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee will hold a rare public hearing tomorrow morning in the Lincoln Auditorium.
HB 504 would provide $15.9 million of what are being referred to as “premiums” to teachers around the state.
